There are certain restaurants that live on your culinary bucket list for years — Piazza Duomo was one of mine. A three-Michelin-star experience set in the heart of Alba, a land where food is culture and wine is art. My expectations were sky-high.
The entrance is subtle, almost hidden, facing the main square. But once inside, the welcome is warm and attentive. The dining room, bright and contemporary, felt inviting — though I must confess, I have a soft spot for dimmed lights and a more intimate glow.
The wine list? As vast and refined as you’d expect. I stayed classic and chose a must: Gaja — iconic, expressive, and always a pleasure.
The tasting menu had a strong visual appeal, with creative nods to the world of art — a nice touch. Still, I had hoped for a deeper connection to the region, something that celebrated the local roots with bold reinterpretation.
Desserts were pleasant but didn’t leave a lasting impression. And while the service was impeccable, the mise en place lacked that wow factor I was quietly hoping for.
All in all, a good experience.
It didn’t quite stir my soul, but it was worth the stop — a solid chapter in my culinary journey.
Still the company made all the difference. After all, it’s the feeling you take with you that counts.
Final score: 6.5 / 10
